A winner where re-use of resources comes first

MacBat of Sweden is a successful forerunner in the re-use business, reducing the consumption of lead-acid batteries to half, recently won the Swedish Recycling Award.
Representatives from the green, conservative and social democrat parties were all in full agreement with 200 experts from various companies and government bodies participating in the Swedish Recycling Award event in Stockholm. All agree that a true improvement of the environment must begin with re-use of products before they are recycled.
The Swedish Recycling Award is managed by the Recycling business magazine and the expert jury decided MacBat as the winner of the “metal recycler of the year” category in harsh competition with the Boliden operations at Rönnskärsverken in Sweden and the Swedish lead-acid battery recycling business (Blybatteriretur) with the motivation:
“Re-use is on top of recycling in the EU waste hierarchy. By re-use, considerably more resources and energy are saved compared to recycling. The winner can with its patented technology re-use batteries and increases its life span; saving monies for the user and at all times reduce the consumption of virgin material. 2009 winner of the “metal recycler of the year” category of the Swedish Recycling Award is MacBat AB.”
MacBat won since we are a very strong role model for innovative solutions in the future business for re-using and recycling. MacBat cooperates with environmentally aware suppliers of batteries and considerably reduces the consumption of lead and cadmium. Additionally we reduce both the costs for owning and using the batteries, and the emissions of carbon dioxide from manufacturing, transportation and recycling of batteries. Batteries that are used in forklifts, on trains and for uninterrupted power supply to the process industry, hospitals, airports and telecom base stations.

MacBat has unique and globally patented technology for regeneration and re-use of batteries. With in the EU, the sale of new lead-acid batteries amounts to € 1.5 billion. One battery costs € 3,000 – 8,000.- and typically lasts for 3 – 6 years. By regular MacBatService, the life span is doubled to 6 – 12 years and the cost for batteries is reduced to half. Furthermore, the productivity is increased and the wear on electric components is reduced by the higher voltage of the battery and the subsequently lower current needed for performing a given task. The efficiency of the battery is also improved and the battery can be charged faster to higher energy content, which decreases the energy consumption every time the battery is charged.
